Happy Thanksgiving!
And to all of my compatriots and cohorts in the education business...Happy Thanksgiving Break!
Thanksgiving marks the start of the holiday season around these parts, and our family's holiday season is full of traditions. Unfortunately, the entire family couldn't be together today...
...Jenny's kids are in Utah with their semi-vegetarian parents where they not doubt excited about a real Turkey dinner...
...and Spencer and Brianna are in Buffalo where they are both hard at work; Brianna saving lives and Spencer doing whatever it is he does for the Bills.
With all of those missing family members, it was nice to have another mouth to feed this weekend. That mouth belongs to Chloe, my friend Elizabeth's neurotic bat-eared dog. Elizabeth is spending the break with relatives who are not dog lovers, so Greg gets to start a new Thanksgiving tradition...stuffing Chloe full of pie.
My nieces also decided to start some new Thanksgiving-Eve traditions.
Kenna mowed the lawn courtesy of the bubble mower and global warming...
...and Kylie-Monchichi decided get into the holiday spirit by turning my dad into Homely the Red-nosed Papa.
But when Thanksgiving day rolled around, we reverted back to our time-tested Thanksgiving Traditions. Out came the Osmonds Christmas CD...
...which played through out the morning along with Michael Buble's "Let it Snow" album.
Then my dad got to work cooking scones. He has been cooking scones on Thanksgiving morning for as long as I can remember. Friends and family come over and we visit as we scarf scones for hours on end.
This year my Aunt Debbie and Uncle Stu were the guests of honor. Stu used to have scone eating contests with my four brothers back when the boys were younger...but that part of the tradition has been shelved due to the pain and suffering and uneaten turkey that always resulted later in the day.
But Warren still managed to eat an impressive number of scones despite his old age. Becky and Kenna enjoyed them too.
Papa even made Kenna her own mini scone, which she carried around for a while before feeding it to a very happy bat-eared dog who shall remain nameless.
Poor Kylie-Monchichi didn't get any scones, but Grandma did hook her up with a delicious banana. From the look of things, I think poor Kylie knows she is being jipped.
After everyone had eaten more than their share of scones, Grandma got the turkey ready for the oven, which in this family involves an impressive amount of cooking sherry...
...and Greg settled in to watch his Detroit Lions get stomped by the Titans.
Kenna made friends with Uncle Stu, who just happens to be tall enough to reach the high cupboard where the gummy worms were hid.
And now we are all going to work off those scones by participating in yet another family tradition...building a habitat for humanity house for the less fortunate while the turkey cooks...
...which played through out the morning along with Michael Buble's "Let it Snow" album.

looks like you guys are having a nice thanksgiving. we miss you!
btw - kylie has her dad's ears!
My mom thinks I'm totally abominable for using alcohol when I marinate and cook meat, but nothing makes meat taste better. My food cupboard (our kitchen is too small for a pantry) is stuffed with tequila, sherry, dry red wine, etc., all used for cooking meat. And only for cooking meat; I promise!! :)
what a fun tradition! I love the idea of an open door policy thanksgiving morning and being able to visit while everyone is in town. pretty cool.
